Thai people are very practical when it comes to naming things. Prik Chee Fah translates literally to “Chilli pointing to the sky.” Elsewhere around the globe, these chillies have adopted the more generic name of Thai Bird’s Eye. They have a heat range of 50,000- 100,000 SHU. I sourced the original seeds from my friends farm just outside of Udon Thani (The provincial capital city in northeast Thailand. Udon is approx’ 560km from Bangkok)
How best to use Thai Birds Eye Chillies?
The fruits start green and turn classic red when ripe. The red color is intensified when dried/dehydrated and is a key part in making a Thai red curry paste. The plant itself seems to grow rather rapidly in Western Europe, so expect great results! The chillies are often used fresh and are added at the end of cooking a dish.
Why Choose So Sow Garden Grow Kits?
Here at SoSowGarden I grow and source the best quality seeds. I only harvest the fruits when they are at their most ripe, this ensures the seeds you'll have will be at their strongest. For the quickest germination results, sow seeds within the first year of purchase. There are hundreds of quick germination techniques out there, and a successful common rule for seeds with a hard husk is to soak them for 6-12 hours before planting. Chilli, Pumpkin, Jeera & Sesame are examples of these kind of seeds that need that little soak! I'm always here to help you along the way, so do drop me a message and I'll give advice where possible.
All paper used is FSC sourced and all cardboard is from recycled sources. The only plastic used is the bags for the soil mix and the seeds. There are plenty of uses for these bags when using your grow kit. Use them as extra pots, as a mini greenhouse, to isolate cross pollinated flowers and of course to keep the seeds from your next harvest!
All grow kits are designed and handmade in the UK by me.

Seed germination takes time, so don't panic! If in winter months, please don't expect fruitful results. The best time to sow seeds in western Europe for plants like this is February/early spring. They can germinate in winter if indoors, but growth rate will be very slow for the obvious fact that it's winter.
